NVIDIA DLSS 5 Arrives in Hogwarts Legacy on November 5 as RTX Remix Gets Faster Model

NVIDIA is adding DLSS 5 to Hogwarts Legacy on November 5, and the technology is already available to modders through RTX Remix. The update comes with a faster version of the model, but DLSS 5 still lowers frame rates instead of raising them.

What is coming?

NVIDIA says DLSS 5 will reach Hogwarts Legacy on November 5, alongside updates to the game’s other DLSS features. It will run on GeForce RTX 50 Series GPUs, GeForce NOW, and RTX Spark laptops. Where Winds Meet is expected to follow in late November, without an exact date yet.

RTX Remix, NVIDIA’s free modding platform for remastering older games, received the new model on October 23. NVIDIA showed early community projects, including a Fallout 4 RTX mod, but those are not official DLSS 5 updates.

What DLSS 5 does

Earlier DLSS versions mainly boosted performance. DLSS 5 uses what NVIDIA calls 3D-guided neural rendering to change how lighting and materials look, with the biggest visible effect on characters’ faces. Engadget, which tested it, said faces in games such as Control and Resident Evil 2 looked noticeably different and that it preferred the result.

The performance cost

NVIDIA says its updated model is about twice as fast as the previous one. It also says the model needs roughly 20 percent less video memory at 4K and has a smaller install footprint. In NBA 2K27, NVIDIA claims frame rates up to 1.4 times higher than before.

That does not mean DLSS 5 raises FPS. PC Games Hardware notes that independent comparisons of the new model are still missing. Engadget’s tests on an RTX 5090 showed Control at 4K running at around 80 to 100 FPS with DLSS 5 on and a remastered Metal Gear Solid 4 well above 120 FPS only with it off.

The backlash

DLSS 5 has been controversial since its first demo, with critics calling it an AI beauty filter that changes a game’s artistic intent. NVIDIA says the early demo used maximum settings and that developers such as Avalanche Software can tune the look with adjustable sliders.

Who can use it?

Neural rendering is limited to GeForce RTX 50 Series cards. NVIDIA has not said which cards RTX Remix needs for DLSS 5. Separately, a new Frame Generation “Preset C” mode is in beta in the NVIDIA app for RTX 40 and 50 Series GPUs and RTX Spark laptops. NVIDIA says it runs up to 35 percent faster on an RTX 5060, with a small image quality cost.

Community tools such as DLSS 5 Swapper can add the effect to other games, though Engadget found anti-cheat can block them. Engadget suggests an RTX 5070 or better for decent results.

What to watch

Whether Hogwarts Legacy looks as natural as NVIDIA claims and how much FPS it costs will be clearer after launch day. We will update this post once reviews and benchmarks are out.

DLSS 5 went live in Hogwarts Legacy on November 5. Early reaction is mixed, with some players saying the change is hard to notice and others disliking the AI-adjusted look. Independent benchmarks are still limited.
