iPhone 18 Pro Max Release Date, Price, and Colors

By Technwz Editorial Team
September 19, 2026 6 Min Read

I’ll be honest. I refreshed Apple’s site way more than I’d like to admit in early September. I wasn’t even planning to buy anything. The iPhone 18 Pro Max release date kept shifting from one rumor to the next, and I wanted a straight answer.

Now there is one. The new Pro phones hit stores on September 18, and the guessing is over. Here’s the thing, though. Most articles still read like a countdown, and that clock has run out. So this guide covers what actually launched, what it costs, which colors made the cut, and what’s still coming in 2027.

iPhone 18 Pro Release Date: What Apple Confirmed

Announcement day

Apple held its Surprise and Shine event on Wednesday, September 9, 2026. The keynote started at 10 a.m. Pacific in Cupertino. That settles the iPhone 18 Pro announcement date, which honestly went back and forth for weeks. Some early reports guessed September 8. They were missed by one day.

The lineup was smaller than usual. Two new Pro phones, a foldable, and a few extras like AirPods 5. No standard iPhone 18. More on that in a second.

Pre-orders and shipping

Pre-orders opened on Saturday, September 12. That’s a small break from the usual Friday routine. The phones then reached stores on September 18, so the iPhone 18 Pro release date is officially in the books.

So when is the iPhone 18 Pro Max coming out? It already did. Both models shipped together, with no staggered rollout for the bigger one. That’s a relief. In 2022, the iPhone 14 Plus arrived weeks after its siblings, and plenty of people grumbled.

When Does iPhone 18 Come Out? The Standard Model Waits

Sure, the Pro phones are here. But if you typed “when does iPhone 18 come out” into Google, you probably meant the regular one. That’s the catch. Apple left it off the September stage entirely.

Reports point to a spring 2027 debut, alongside the iPhone 18e and the iPhone Air 2. Apple hasn’t confirmed any of it, so treat that window as a strong guess, not a promise. When will iPhone 18 come out in its standard form, then? Spring, if those reports hold. Plenty of people phrase it as “When is the new iPhone 18 coming out?” Same answer.

I’ll say the quiet part out loud. Splitting the lineup suits Apple’s calendar, and it’s annoying for the rest of us. Two launches a year means two rounds of decisions, two rounds of “should I wait?”

In a nutshell, here’s where things stand:

  1. Pro and Pro Max: Announced September 9. In stores September 18.
  2. Standard iPhone 18: Not announced yet. Spring 2027 is the likely window.
  3. iPhone 18e and Air 2: Reportedly arriving alongside the standard model.

The Apple iPhone 18 release date for that base phone stays a rumor for now. Nobody outside Apple knows the exact day. And anyone who says otherwise is guessing.

iPhone 18 Pro Price: What Apple Charges Now

Pro and Pro Max pricing

Here’s where it stings. The iPhone 18 Pro price starts at $1,199, and the smaller Pro now offers a 2TB option for the first time. The Apple iPhone 18 Pro Max price starts at $1,299. Both cost $100 more than last year’s equivalents.

A hundred dollars isn’t nothing. It isn’t shocking either, given the year we’ve had in memory prices.

Why it costs more

The backdrop is a global memory shortage. Apple already raised Mac and iPad prices over the summer as memory and storage costs climbed. That doesn’t shrink the bill. It does explain it.

Keep in mind the true iPhone 18 cost goes past the sticker. Apple also launched an updated Clear Case, new silicone and FineWoven cases, a wrist strap, and an AppleCare One Family plan. Add a case and coverage, and the total climbs fast. I’d budget for that before walking into a store.

iPhone 18 Colors: Burgundy, Glacier, Black, and Silver

Picking the color of an iPhone you’ll stare at for three years is harder than it sounds. This year gives you four choices: Burgundy, Glacier, Black, and Silver.

Burgundy is the new star, a deep purplish red. Glacier is a soft sky blue. Black and Silver fill out the rest. Apple also revised its aluminum process, and the frame now matches the glass back in color.

Now the letdowns. If you searched for iPhone 18 pink, I have bad news. The Pro lineup has no pink. Whether the standard iPhone 18 gets one is still an open question. And an iPhone titanium finish? Not this year. Apple kept the aluminum body.

iPhone 18 Specs: What Changed Under the Hood

Chip and battery

The iPhone 18 specs start with the A20 Pro chip, built on a 2-nanometer process. You get a 6-core CPU and a 7-core GPU with 40 percent faster graphics. The Neural Engine now has 32 cores, and memory bandwidth jumped 50 percent.

Apple also wired the chip to a new vapor chamber for sustained performance. I care about that more than the benchmark bump. Phones that throttle after ten minutes of gaming are a pet peeve of mine. Battery is the other big pitch. The Pro matches the 17 Pro Max, and the Pro Max claims up to 30 hours.

Camera and display

The main camera is a 48MP Fusion sensor with variable aperture, and it sits on both Pro models, not just the Max. Apple says night mode captures come out faster, and you can now set aperture and shutter speed by hand. The new Apple Reference Image feature is the odd one. Apple says it adds metadata meant to show a photo isn’t AI-generated. I’m curious how much that matters in daily use, honestly.

Want an iPhone with three cameras? The Pro phones keep last year’s triangular rear layout. The Dynamic Island shrinks, too, and it can show three Live Activities at once.

Software

Both phones run iOS 27. If you missed the June preview, our iOS 27 features guide covers the Siri changes. The update rolled out on September 14 and works on the iPhone 11 and newer, so you don’t need the new hardware to get it.

The Foldable: Where the iPhone 18 Flip Phone Fits

Apple also announced a foldable, and it isn’t quite what the internet guessed. Rumors called it the iPhone Fold or the iPhone Ultra. Apple went with iPhone Duo. It starts at $1,999.

If you were hunting for an iPhone 18 flip phone, note that pre-event reports described a book-style design, not a clamshell. I haven’t held one, so I’ll skip the hot takes. At nearly two grand, though, it’s a very different decision from a Pro.

iPhone 18 Pro Max Leaks: What Got Rumored Right

The leaks held up better than usual this year. By late summer, reports had landed on a September 9 keynote. Color leaks even nailed the dark red shade, though Apple picked a blander name.

The iPhone 18 expected release date most sites projected, September 18, landed exactly right. The name was the miss. Everyone said Fold or Ultra.

General iPhone rumors are hit and miss, sure. But supply chain color leaks have earned some trust now. I’ll keep watching iPhone 18 news for the standard model, because that’s where the next surprise probably sits.

Should You Upgrade to the iPhone 18 Pro?

If you only came for the iPhone 18 Pro Max release date 2026 answer, it’s September 18. Done. But the real question is whether it’s worth your money.

Here’s how I’d split it:

Coming from an iPhone 15 or older: Upgrade. On paper, the chip, battery, and camera jump are big, and you’ll feel it every day. The $1,199 sting fades by month two.

Already on a 17 Pro: Probably skip. The design is nearly identical, and you’d pay for a modest step forward. I’d wait a year.

Torn between platforms: Read our iPhone vs Android breakdown before you spend anything. It might save you a few hundred dollars.

The standard iPhone 18 is the one I’m watching now. Spring will show whether Apple holds the line on price or passes the memory bill down again.
