GTA 6 Gameplay, Map Size, Crossplay & Features: Everything Confirmed So Far

Two trailers, one massive leak, a mountain of retailer listings, and thousands of hours of frame-by-frame analysis. That’s what we’re working with for GTA 6 right now, and honestly, it’s more than enough to paint a detailed picture of what’s coming on November 19.

I’ve gone through everything: the confirmed GTA 6 gameplay features, the map size debate, the crossplay question everyone keeps asking, radio station rumors, and the stuff Rockstar still refuses to talk about. This is the full breakdown, with a clear line between what’s confirmed and what’s just noise.

GTA 6 Gameplay: What’s Actually Confirmed

Here’s the thing about GTA 6 gameplay right now. Rockstar has shown plenty, but a huge chunk of what you’ve seen on YouTube is fake. GTA 6 fake gameplay videos, usually AI-generated or built in other engines, pull millions of views. If it’s not from Rockstar’s two official trailers or verified screenshots, treat it as fiction. Stick to the GTA 6 confirmed features and you’re safe.

The confirmed gameplay changes are genuinely substantial though. You play as two protagonists, Jason and Lucia, and can switch between them in single player. The GTA 6 female protagonist is a series first for the modern era, and it changes how the story gets told. Combat and stealth got reworked with prone crawling, zip ties, and human shields, plus a smarter six-star wanted system. The visuals push ray-traced global illumination, strand-based hair physics, clothing that reacts to wind, and facial hair that actually grows over time.

The biggest GTA 6 gameplay change might be the structure itself. Rockstar describes GTA 6 as a single-player experience at launch. More on what that means for online play in a minute, because it surprised a lot of people.

As for GTA 6 trailer 3 gameplay, it doesn’t exist yet. Trailer 3 is widely expected before launch now that pre-orders are live, and it will be the first real gameplay showcase. If you haven’t locked in a copy yet, my GTA 6 preorder guide covers both editions and the bonus pack.

GTA 6 Map Size: How Big Is the GTA 6 Map?

First, the basics for anyone wondering where GTA 6 is based: the state of Leonida, Rockstar’s take on Florida, with Vice City standing in for Miami. Think GTA 6 in Miami, but stretched across an entire state.

Rockstar hasn’t published an official measurement, so every GTA 6 map size figure you see is an estimate. But the estimates are consistent, and they’re absurd. How big is GTA 6 going to be? The community mapping project

, which reconstructs the map from trailer footage and leaks, puts the GTA 6 map at roughly 2.4 to 2.7 times bigger than GTA 5. Since GTA 5’s map measured about 49 square miles, that lands GTA 6 somewhere between 118 and 132 square miles of playable Leonida. For a series where the map is basically the main character, that’s a generational jump.

There’s also a persistent rumor about a GTA 6 map Georgia connection. Evidence points to a neighboring state called Gloriana, inspired by Georgia, possibly appearing as a border region or future expansion. Not confirmed, but the mapping community takes it seriously.

GTA 6 Map vs GTA 5: The Comparison That Matters

Every GTA 6 map comparison lands on the same conclusion: the raw numbers undersell it. Put the GTA 5 map vs GTA 6 map side by side and in the GTA 6 map compared to GTA 5, Vice City alone takes up less than 20% of the total map, and it can still fit entire maps from previous GTA games inside its city limits. The rest of Leonida sprawls across six confirmed regions: Vice City, the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, and Mount Kalaga National Park.

You get the neon-soaked GTA 6 Ocean Drive strip in Vice City, Florida Keys island chains, Everglades-style swamps with alligators, a decaying coastal town, biker-controlled industrial zones, and a national park for hunting and off-roading. GTABase maintains an excellent evolving version in their GTA 6 map hub if you want to study the layout.

And density might matter more than size. Over 700 enterable interiors are expected, from nightclubs to gun stores to the Vice City Metro. GTA 5 vs GTA 6 isn’t really a fair fight.

Vehicles, Weapons, and Yes, Probably Tanks

Rockstar has confirmed over 200 vehicles at launch, spanning cars, bikes, boats, helicopters, and planes, many with fully interactive interiors. Eagle-eyed fans have already catalogued GTA 6 vehicles from the trailers, including plenty of GTA 6 police cars for you to inevitably steal. The GTA 6 cop cars have that classic Miami-Dade cruiser look, which fits the setting perfectly.

On GTA 6 weapons, the confirmed footage shows a familiar arsenal with returning favorites, and trailer analysis spotted what looks like the GTA 6 Combat MG MK2 making a comeback. As for GTA 6 tanks, nothing official yet. However, every mainline GTA has had a tank to rampage with, and I’d be genuinely shocked if Leonida doesn’t hide a military base somewhere.

Strip Clubs, Jiggle Physics, and the Twerk Button

Sure, this section sounds like a joke. The search volume says otherwise.

The GTA 6 strip club situation is straightforward: trailer 2 showed club scenes, and GTA 6 strippers were visible in the leaked 2022 footage too. GTA 6 strip clubs are coming back, as they’ve been a series staple since Vice City in 2002. The infamous GTA 6 jiggle physics became a meme after trailer 2, where fans noticed character animation detail that, let’s say, exceeded expectations. It’s a silly headline but it actually reflects something real: the physics simulation in this game operates on a different level.

Will GTA 6 have a twerk button? This one came from the 2022 leak footage and took on a life of its own. Rockstar hasn’t confirmed a dedicated dance mechanic, so file it under plausible rumor. Given the Miami club culture the game is built around, I wouldn’t rule it out either.

GTA 6 Radio Stations and Soundtrack

This is the mystery box. The GTA 6 radio station lineup is still completely unannounced, which is a little surprising this close to release. GTA’s radio has always been legendary, and licensing costs for a soundtrack of this scale run into the millions per negotiation cycle.

What we do have: the GTA 6 trailer song picks. Trailer 1 used Tom Petty’s “Love Is a Long Road” and the GTA 6 trailer 2 song is “Hot Together” by The Pointer Sisters. Both scream the sun-bleached Florida tone Rockstar is going for. Expect the full GTA 6 soundtrack and radio stations 2026 reveal to be its own marketing moment closer to launch, probably alongside trailer 3.

Story Mode Length and Those 400 Events

Rockstar hasn’t confirmed the GTA 6 story mode length. The GTA 6 main story length rumors point well past GTA 5’s 30-ish hours, and based on Red Dead Redemption 2’s roughly 60-hour campaign plus the sheer scale of Leonida, that tracks. Completionists are looking at triple digits.

One number floating around is the 400 interesting events GTA 6 claim, sometimes cited as 400 interactive events, which surfaced through retailer listings and leaks describing hundreds of dynamic world encounters scattered across the map. Rockstar hasn’t confirmed the figure. But RDR2 shipped with a similar ambient event system, so directionally it tracks. This is the studio’s whole design philosophy now: a world that keeps happening around you whether you engage or not.

Is GTA 6 cross-play or cross-platform?

Is GTA 6 cross-platform? Short answer: no, at least not at launch, and the reason is simpler than people think.

GTA 6 launches as a single-player experience. There’s no multiplayer component on day one, so the question “Will GTA 6 be crossplay?” doesn’t even apply yet. So will GTA 6 come out with GTA Online? No. Rockstar hasn’t announced when the GTA Online successor arrives or what shape it takes, only that it won’t be attached on day one.

Is GTA 6 going to be crossplay when online mode does land? History isn’t encouraging. Rockstar has never supported crossplay in any title. GTA Online and Red Dead Online kept PlayStation, Xbox, and PC players separated for over a decade. However, the industry has changed a lot since 2013, both Sony and Microsoft have softened on crossplay, and one widely circulated insider claim says GTA 6 Online will launch with PS5 and Xbox crossplay enabled. Treat that as a rumor until Rockstar says it. Until then, “Will GTA 6 have crossplay?” stays officially unanswered.

So is GTA 6 going to be cross-platform eventually? Maybe. Plan your platform purchase around where your friends already play, not around a feature nobody has promised.

Will GTA 6 Be on Switch 2, Xbox One, or Series S?

Quick answers, because these questions dominate search:

  • Switch 2: No. There’s no GTA 6 Switch 2 version announced, and given the hardware demands, I wouldn’t hold my breath for a GTA 6 Nintendo Switch port at all.
  • Will GTA 6 be on Xbox One or PS4? No. GTA 6 is current-gen only, full stop.
  • Will GTA 6 be on Xbox Series X and Series S? Yes to both. The GTA 6 Xbox Series S version is confirmed alongside Series X, though expect visual compromises on the smaller box.
  • PS5 or PS5 Pro for GTA 6: Both work. Sony has been loudly marketing that GTA 6 “plays best on PS5,” and the GTA 6 PS5 Pro experience should be the best on console, though maybe not in the way you’d hope. Keep reading.
  • PC: Not at launch. Realistically 2027 or later.

I broke down the full timeline and expected specs in my GTA 6 PC release date guide.

GTA 6 at 60fps? Don’t Count On It

The GTA 6 FPS debate is the uncomfortable one. The GTA 6 frame rate rumors got serious when tech analysts at Digital Foundry weighed in: they expect GTA 6 gameplay 60fps hopes to be off the table on consoles at launch, even on PS5 Pro, with 30fps as the likely baseline. The bottleneck isn’t graphics, it’s the CPU. Dense city simulation, vehicle physics, and crowd density hammer the processor, and Leonida looks like a magnitude jump beyond anything current consoles have simulated. TechRadar covered the full Digital Foundry analysis if you want the technical reasoning.

A 40fps mode for 120Hz displays is a realistic middle ground, and a GTA 6 30fps launch with a 60fps patch later, or a proper 60fps PC version, is the pattern I’d expect. Annoying, but GTA 5 on PS3 ran below 30 at times and nobody remembers that now.

How Many GB Will GTA 6 Be?

No official GTA 6 game size reveal has happened yet, so asking how many gigabytes is GTA 6 gets you estimates, not answers. The educated guesses start at Red Dead Redemption 2’s roughly 150GB and go up from there, with some pushing the GTA 6 storage size toward 200GB or beyond given the map scale and 700+ interiors. So how much storage will GTA 6 take? Plan for 150GB as the floor, and clear more to be safe.

Whatever the final GTA 6 download size turns out to be, the practical advice is the same: free up your SSD now, and preload on November 12 the moment it opens. A file this size on launch-day internet is misery.

How Long Has GTA 6 Been in Development?

How long have they been working on GTA 6? Longer than some of its players have been alive, almost. Preliminary work started back in 2014 right after GTA 5 shipped, early development kicked off in late 2018 once Red Dead Redemption 2 was done, and full production began in 2020 under the codename Project Americas. Count it however you want, you’re looking at 8 to 12 years, with a GTA 6 dev team that has grown past 2,000 people, per the game’s Wikipedia development history.

The budget matches the timeline. How much did GTA 6 cost to make? Nobody outside Take-Two knows the real number, and estimates for what is the budget for GTA 6 range from $1 billion to $2 billion once marketing is included. If the higher figures are accurate, fans asking will GTA 6 be the first quadruple A game might be onto something. As for how many people are working on GTA 6, the GTA 6 development team spans Rockstar studios worldwide, and one detail is settled: it runs on the latest Rockstar Advanced Game Engine, so if you’ve wondered what RAGE engine is GTA 6 using, most reporting points to RAGE 9.

The Henderson Predictions and the Houser Question

Two names hang over the development story. The Tom Henderson GTA 6 predictions correctly called the delays years before Rockstar admitted them, cementing his insider reputation. And Dan Houser, the co-founder who wrote every mainline GTA since the beginning, left Rockstar in 2020. The Dan Houser GTA 6 warning, if you can even call it that, came wrapped in politeness in his 2025 comments: this won’t be a story he wrote, and “the world’s probably had enough GTA from me.” GTA 6 is the first mainline entry without his pen, and honestly, that’s the single biggest unknown about this game. Not the map, not the frame rate. The writing.

Final Thoughts

Strip away the memes and the fake gameplay videos, and the GTA 6 features already confirmed are remarkable: a map twice the size of GTA 5 with six distinct regions, 200+ vehicles, 700+ interiors, reworked combat, and a level of simulation detail that has tech analysts worried about frame rates. The open questions, radio stations, online mode, exact file size, and story length will get answered one by one between now and November 19.

Trailer 3 is the next big domino. When it drops, expect half of this article’s “unconfirmed” section to move into the confirmed column overnight. We’ll update this guide when it does.
