Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.4 Speculation: Will It Actually Happen?

There was never a 2.4. CD Projekt RED skipped straight to Update 2.5, the Edgerunners 2 Update, which is live now with dual-wielding, two new quests and console mods. Read our full breakdown of Cyberpunk 2077 update 2.5.

Nobody expected Cyberpunk 2077 to end up here. When the game launched in December 2020, it was a disaster. Bugs are everywhere, last-gen consoles are completely broken, and Sony has pulled it from the PlayStation Store. The internet was very active. The reputation of CD Projekt RED suffered significantly.

Fast forward to 2026, and people genuinely love the game. CD Projekt RED has spent five years releasing patches, a 2.0 overhaul, the Phantom Liberty expansion, an acclaimed Netflix anime in Edgerunners, and comics and is now working on two spin-off products. The comeback story is real.

But it might be over.

Since 2023, CDPR has announced that it has finished giving Cyberpunk 2077 major updates. Then Update 2.3 dropped in July 2025 anyway, adding new vehicles, side jobs, and a full photo mode overhaul. So when fans started asking about Cyberpunk 2077 update 2.4, nobody could quite tell whether to take the “we’re done” messaging seriously. Here’s where things actually stand.

What Is Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.4?

Nothing official. That’s the honest answer.

CD Projekt RED has not announced a version 2.4 update. There is no trailer, no blog post, and no patch notes teaser. The speculation around it comes entirely from the community, based on two things: CDPR’s track record of releasing updates after saying they’re finished and the fact that Edgerunners Season 2 is reportedly in the works, which previously coincided with a surprise content drop for the game.

Update 2.0 was the big one, releasing alongside Phantom Liberty in September 2023. It rebuilt the perk system, added vehicle combat, overhauled police AI, and changed so many systems that it effectively turned Cyberpunk 2077 into a different game. The 2.1 update added the metro system and romance hangouts. The 2.2 update brought community features and more customization. And the 2.3 update added new vehicles, gigs, and Photo Mode tools, even though CDPR said it had completed major updates.

What Did Update 2.3 Add?

CD Projekt Red confirmed the upcoming update 2.3 in mid-2025, after saying major updates were done. If you were wondering when is Cyberpunk 2.3 coming out, it arrived on July 17, 2025, on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. Switch 2 got it later.

The Cyberpunk 2077 2.3 patch notes included:

  • AutoDrive. Your car can drive itself to a marker or just cruise the city.
  • Four new vehicles. Each one is unlocked through new side jobs.
  • Delamain cabs. Self-driving taxis you can call from the menu.
  • Photo Mode upgrades. 27 new NPCs, outfit switching and new frames.
  • VRR support. On PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
  • PC upgrades. FSR 3.1 Frame Generation, XeSS 2.0, and Mac support.

As for the Cyberpunk 2077 update 2.3 size, it was a big one, close to 37GB on some platforms. Make sure you have space before it downloads.

You can track all official updates on the Cyberpunk 2077 news page directly. It’s difficult to ignore the pattern. Every time CDPR says they’re finished, they release something else.

Will There Be a Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.4?

Probably not a major one. But a smaller surprise drop? It’s more possible than CDPR’s messaging suggests.

Here is why the community thinks something could still come:

The Edgerunners Season 2 Update

The original Edgerunners anime was released in September 2022, and it was a massive hit, so massive that CDPR built cross-media tie-ins into the game shortly after. That speculation is now confirmed fact: Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is officially set to premiere on Netflix in fall 2026, a 10-episode standalone story with an entirely new cast rather than a continuation of David and Lucy’s arc. Given how CDPR tied the first season into the game with cosmetics, quests, and easter eggs, expect a similar wave when Edgerunners 2 lands. Nothing on the scale of the 2.0 overhaul, but likely a fresh round of tie-in content timed to the premiere.

Cyberpunk 2 Is in Development

CDPR confirmed that work on Cyberpunk 2, internally called Project Orion, has started. Late in 2025, the company listed 29 new open positions specifically for the sequel. The Witcher 4 is the main project right now, but Orion is moving.

Here’s the relevant point: When The Witcher 3 received its next-gen update in 2022, it brought a wave of new players back to a game most had already finished. CDPR knows this strategy works. A small Cyberpunk 2077 update timed to build hype for Orion’s eventual announcement would make complete marketing sense. Whether they do it is another question.

The Community Is Still Loud

Reddit threads, community forums, and fan sites are still actively pushing for more content. One Reddit user put it well: “I would put money on a content release when the next season of Edgerunners comes out. Otherwise, I think we can look forward to a small update each year that expands on things like clothes or the CrystalCoat system being expanded to weapons.” That energy has historically translated into CDPR listening, at least occasionally.

What Could Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.4 Include?

If it happens, here is what the community most wants to see based on active forum discussions and feature requests.

Expanded CrystalCoat System

Update 2.3 introduced CrystalCoat, which lets you change the color of certain vehicles dynamically. Fans immediately wanted the feature extended to weapons and clothing. It’s a relatively contained system to expand, which makes it a realistic candidate for a smaller update.

AI and NPC Improvements

Night City’s pedestrian AI is still a weak point. NPCs react robotically to events, and crowd behavior feels thin compared to how immersive the world looks visually. Better open-world AI behavior has been on the wish list since launch. Update 2.0 improved police AI significantly. A 2.4 could make further progress.

Cyberware Balance Tweaks

The 2.0 update completely rebuilt the cyberware system, and it landed well, but the community has flagged balance issues with certain builds being overpowered while others feel useless. Players who engage with builds seriously would welcome a tuning pass on cyberware, even if it is not a headline feature.

New Gigs or Side Content

Update 2.3 added several new gigs and side jobs. A 2.4 could do the same, particularly if it were tied to a marketing moment like Edgerunners Season 2 or a Cyberpunk 2 announcement. CDPR has shown they can ship tight, well-written side content quickly when motivated.

What CDPR Has Actually Said

The studio’s position has been consistent: Cyberpunk 2077 is done receiving major updates as of 2.3.

In early 2026, Screen Rant reported that CDPR had been saying they were finished with major updates since the 2.0 patch in September 2023. However, the community remains divided on whether that’s actually the end, even though 2.3 still arrived. The studio’s official communication on the matter has been vague enough to leave room for interpretation, which is part of why the speculation won’t die down.

The honest read is this: CDPR probably will not drop another major content update on the scale of 2.0 or even 2.3. The team has moved on to The Witcher 4 as the primary focus. But what about a smaller patch, some quality-of-life fixes, or a cosmetic drop tied to a marketing moment? That’s absolutely still in play.

Should You Play Cyberpunk 2077 While Waiting?

If you haven’t played since before 2.0, go back. The game is dramatically better than it was. The perk system makes sense now. The police actually respond realistically. V moves better, combat feels tighter, and the world holds together in a way it didn’t at launch.

Phantom Liberty is genuinely excellent if you haven’t played it. It’s a separate story set in a new district with its own cast of characters, and it rivals some of the best RPG storytelling from the past decade.

And just like the Fallout 3 remaster situation, where a beloved game from a different era is having a moment, Cyberpunk 2077’s current standing is a reminder that a rough launch doesn’t have to be the end of the story. Sometimes the right team and enough time turn things around completely.

What Comes After Cyberpunk 2077?

Cyberpunk 2 is the answer, but don’t expect a release date any time soon.

CDPR confirmed Project Orion is in early development. The Witcher 4 has to ship first, and that’s still at least a year or two out. Cyberpunk 2 is now in pre-production with more than 180 developers, and most estimates point to around 2030. In the meantime, the board game and trading card game announced for 2026 will keep the IP active for existing fans.

The Stardew Valley modding community, while a different genre entirely, is one of the best examples of what a passionate community can achieve when a developer eventually steps back, providing players with a massive open-world RPG to fill the gap. The parallels to where Cyberpunk is heading are intriguing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.4 confirmed?

No, and it never will be. CD Projekt RED skipped Cyberpunk 2.4 entirely and went straight to Update 2.5, the Edgerunners 2 update, in October 2026.

What was the last Cyberpunk 2077 update?

Update 2.5, released on October 22, 2026, to tie in with Edgerunners 2. It added dual-wielding, new quests and console mods. Before that, Update 2.3 in July 2025 added new vehicles, side jobs and a Photo Mode overhaul.

Will Cyberpunk 2077 receive more updates in 2026?

It already did. Update 2.5 launched in October 2026 alongside Edgerunners 2, exactly the kind of tie-in drop fans predicted.

What is Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.4 speculation is based on?

Mainly two things: CDPR’s track record of releasing updates after saying they are done and the possibility of Edgerunners Season 2 triggering a tie-in content drop similar to what happened after Season 1.

What is Cyberpunk 2 (Project Orion)?

It’s the confirmed sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, now in pre-production with more than 180 developers. CD Projekt RED hasn’t given a date, but the studio’s own four-to-five-year estimate points to around 2030.

Is Cyberpunk 2077 worth playing in 2026?

Yes, especially if you haven’t played since before the 2.0 update. The developers have completely overhauled the game since launch, and Phantom Liberty is excellent. It’s a significantly better game than the one that shipped in 2020.

What could Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.4 include?

Community speculation points to an expanded CrystalCoat system for weapons and clothing, NPC AI improvements, cyberware balance tweaks, and possibly new gigs or side content if tied to a marketing moment.

Note: This article covers speculation and community discussion. We will update it if CD Projekt RED makes any official announcement about future Cyberpunk 2077 updates.
